I thought you might find my story interesting. I am a fugitive anti-corruption investigator with a serious problem. Over the past 5+ years I had allowed myself, in informal arrangement set up via 3rd party, to be used as live bait to document an international murder ring connected to intelligence agencies, for both German and Spanish (and then German again) authorities. The problem is, despite the fact the authorities should long since have ample evidence to issue arrest warrants, pursue extraditions and prosecutions, they sit on their hands. Probably this has to do with the explosive nature of my case and I will hazard a guess of political interference and/or inertia.
This initiated under Bush and carried on under Obama. I regret to inform you the Bush era crimes did not cease with the Obama administration, but have rather been shell gamed. Related to this, I had initiated a complaint with the International Criminal Court naming Germany as accessory to criminal acts:
The International Criminal Court has asked for more detailed information prior to any decision taken to prosecute. In the meanwhile, it had been my hope Germany would take responsible action, rather than my filing an amended case. To this end, I have been forwarding much information to the office of Hans Christian Stroebel, but there is no acknowledgement of my communications. I understand Mr Stroebel has been ill, or perhaps my mails are routed to a junk mail folder. In any case, I will now be expanding my communications with members of the German Parliament.

Meanwhile, Robert Mueller’s tenure at the FBI had been perhaps most notable for those crimes the FBI did NOT investigate and/or recommend for prosecution:

Robert Mueller, the United States Department of Justice attorney who allowed the largest criminal enterprise investigation in law enforcement history [BCCI] to fold with minimal prosecutions, has been the George W Bush appointed FBI Director for these past twelve full years.
Mueller was FBI Director when Alberto Gonzales was appointed Attorney General. Attorney General Gonzales, employed by a firm representing Novation Corp prior to his appointment, promptly moved to break up a Department of Justice five member team investigating crimes at Novation. Two investigators, Thelma Colbert and Shannon Ross, suddenly were dead. The other three? One fired, one resigned, and one [must presume the snitch] reassigned. The Novation investigation had been quashed.
The sudden ‘coincidence’ of two ‘natural’ deaths of DoJ investigators could be passed off as just that, ‘coincidence’, were it not for the fact those deaths attended breaking up a team of investigators coming too close to their new boss.
It’s not everyday spy services come under scrutiny for poisonings, in a world of tit for tat clandestine assassination, it is a subject of taboo and denial. But time to time this cowardly habit of surreptitious murders, often mimicking inexplicable but natural seeming deaths, breaks into the open. Typically this happens when it’s politically expedient to embarrass or discredit a hostile government or when a murder had been botched in some sense [see 3, 4, & 5 spy agency assassination by poison linked articles]
A rational conclusion, relating to domestic assassination by intelligence agencies, would be it is not only governments like North Korea engage in murders of people who threaten their power corrupt. In the case of the [now dead] investigators pursuing crimes at Novation, one need look no farther than the connection to a former CIA Director named George Herbert Walker Bush whose son Jeb is closely associated with the criminal enterprise subject to the investigation shut down by Attorney General Gonzales.
Now, some might say ‘this is all a bit of wonderful speculation’ based on a remarkable string of coincidence, and I have no problem with that, because this is all about painting a larger portrait of impunity and murders ordered from on high, and we are working to arrive at ‘the preponderance of the evidence.’ It follows, we should now examine a R.I.C.O. slam dunk case of ‘the chickens come home to roost’ to quote an expression used by Malcolm X.
Present Attorney General Eric Holder and current FBI Director Robert Mueller were colleagues at the District of Columbia United States Attorney’s office, Mueller in charge of homicides division, about the time Bush buddy [billionaire] Carl Lindner was in big trouble over his Chiquita Corporation having provided $1.7 million in cash (and machine guns) to the right wing AUC para-military death squads in a mass murder operation run from Alvaro Uribe’s ranch in Columbia.
Holder was promoted to Deputy Attorney General, a position from which he was later able to influence [in private practice, representing Chiquita] a legal circumstance that would protect the Chiquita corporate executives from ‘murder for hire’ charges under the R.I.C.O statute. The identities of the Chiquita culprits have been sealed in the arrangement put together by Holder, effectively handing a ‘get out of jail free’ card to people who could and should have been prosecuted for murder.
“Indeed, Holder himself, using his influence as former deputy attorney general under the Clinton Administration, helped to negotiate Chiquita’s sweeheart deal with the Justice Department in the criminal case against Chiquita. Under this deal, no Chiquita official received any jail time. Indeed, the identity of the key officials involved in the assistance to the paramilitaries were kept under seal and confidential”
Carl Lindner’s reputation as a owner, is that of a ‘hands on’ management style. A big Bush supporter and right wing extremist, it should come as no surprise the murderers who should have been convicted under R.I.C.O but are protected by Holder at the Department of Justice instead, were responsible for the deaths of some 4,000 people on the political left, people sympathetic to unions and a fair wage and that simply was not good for Chiquita’s profit line. That the AUC para-militaries were invested in the cocaine trade and vector with CIA operatives, is simply par for the course.
“But Uribe, since he first ran for office, has also been dogged by the fact that paramilitary groups grew dramatically during his term as governor in the northwestern state of Antioquia, from 1995 to 1997. During that time, he helped spearhead the creation of Convivirs, legal vigilante groups. Some were later denounced for having morphed into paramilitary death squads or for serving as fronts for paramilitary warlords”
I expect it is fair to state, that when the people who possess tools such as the Racketeering Influenced Corrupt Organizations Act, under which it had been their responsibility these persistent murders should be prosecuted, rather bury the cases and shelve the law instead, all the while looking the other way when investigators deaths shield their boss and friends and friends family from prosecutions, and the beneficiaries of these cover-ups are consistently ultra-conservative multi-national corporate billionaires with intelligence agency, right wing para-military death squad and narcotics trafficking ties, one can begin to make a case for law enforcement and intelligence agencies being little more than enforcers for religious extremist board directors, at the pinnacles of capitalism. Of course, this is all just fine if Jesus approves, correct? Some of us don’t think so.
When narcissism is coupled to power, and we have seen this throughout the history of Western culture, the people who determine for societies what will be moral or, ethically acceptable behaviors, are the people least likely to grasp their own moral or ethical inversions. And there is little one person or any one group of persons can do with multi-billion of dollars or more in pocket, except to impact many peoples lives. Or the lives of entire nations and history.
Fifty years after the fact, several eye witness describe the shooting down of Dag Hammarskjöld’s plane in the Congo and the evidence squarely points to intelligence agencies taking their instructions from corporate board rooms concerned with mineral deposits and American/British mining conglomerates interests in profits over peace.
In the ensuing years, in Africa, corrupt dictators and fake democracies have bent over backwards to please those mining conglomerates. As the actions of multi-national corporations are necessarily concerned with geo-politics and go where the action [money] is, it cannot come as a surprise that, with the folding of the Soviet Union, these non-living legal entities sitting on mountains of cash, would move on and push into Central Asia, where Azerbaijan is a poster child for hosting a who’s who of criminal personalities as evidenced in the composition of the United States-Azerbaijan Chamber of Commerce:
Given the above example of American ‘commerce’, all board director level multi-national corporate personages, sitting together with Azerbaijan’s most powerful banker, one cannot be surprised the Pentagon would have in another case, by bringing in the United States Geological Survey, wet their pants with glee in the person of the former Afghanistan commander & CIA Director David Patreaus, over the one trillion dollar raw minerals assay in Afghanistan and Obama’s decision to keep nine permanent military bases there:
“There is stunning potential here,” Gen. David H. Petraeus, commander of the United States Central Command, said in an interview on Saturday. “There are a lot of ifs, of course, but I think potentially it is hugely significant”
A trillion dollars is a lot of money to corrupt and murder for. With a history of covering up epidemic rape, and murder of women troops disguised as soldier ‘suicide’ related to corruption in his command structure, General Patreaus was the perfect [extremist] ‘Christian Soldier’ to head up the CIA and stay on top of the job..
..which brings us to the professional killers ‘LOS ZETAS’
The CIA has a long history of using Christian missionaries as ‘assets’, which the agency both admits and denies. They admit they’ve done it in the past and deny they do it now. Coincidental to this, the drug cartel with professional commandos called ‘Los Zetas’ or ‘the crazy ones’ trace their exceptional military skills to a hotbed of Christian zealotry: Fort Bragg, North Carolina and the Special Forces that originally trained them in a CIA associated program. This coincide with drug cartels adopting what had been fringe White extremist Christian theology and literature more commonly found in the circles of Rick Perry and the lunatic religious right.
Now, with a Los Zetas breakaway group [they multiply like amoebas] named “The Knights Templar” the Matrix now returns us to Erik Prince and Blackwater, which the Nation has kindly provided us with Federal Court transcripts [excerpt] detailing a very ‘Catholic’ medieval theology:
“Erik Prince, may have murdered or facilitated the murder of individuals who were cooperating with federal authorities investigating the company. The former employee also alleges that Prince “views himself as a Christian crusader tasked with eliminating Muslims and the Islamic faith from the globe,” and that Prince’s companies “encouraged and rewarded the destruction of Iraqi life
“”Using his various companies, [Prince] procured and distributed various weapons, including unlawful weapons such as sawed off semi-automatic machine guns with silencers, through unlawful channels of distribution
“Mr. Prince intentionally deployed to Iraq certain men who shared his vision of Christian supremacy, knowing and wanting these men to take every available opportunity to murder Iraqis. Many of these men used call signs based on the Knights of the Templar, the warriors who fought the Crusades”
What do ‘The Knights Templars’ [nee Zetas] and Eric Prince have in common? Special Operations Forces training & arms trafficking, Knights Templar Christian identity tied to incredibly indiscriminate and wanton murder, for certain, and likely narcotics trafficking on the part of Prince as well, via his [now divested] Blackwater ‘worldwide’ aviation. This is real globalization, folks.
Just a bit more on the Erik Prince criminal enterprise:
The CIA admits [a pet project of Dick Cheney] it hired Blackwater to create a worldwide assassination program but out of the other side of its mouth, the agency denies it was ever employed:
“U.S. officials familiar with the targeted-killing program said that Blackwater’s involvement was limited in scope and duration, and that the arrangement ended several years before CIA Director Leon E. Panetta killed the program two months ago.
“The program was kept secret from Congress for nearly eight years before Panetta told lawmakers about it in June. CIA officials have emphasized that the program was never operational and that it did not lead to the capture or killing of a single terrorism suspect”
“the Central Intelligence Agency was very deeply involved in domestic activities against people they thought to be enemies of the state. Without any legal authority for it. They haven’t been called on it yet. That does happen.
“Right now, today, there was a story in the New York Times that if you read it carefully mentioned something known as the Joint Special Operations Command — JSOC it’s called. It is a special wing of our special operations community that is set up independently. They do not report to anybody, except in the Bush-Cheney days, they reported directly to the Cheney office. They did not report to the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff or to Mr. [Robert] Gates, the secretary of defense. They reported directly to him.
“Congress has no oversight of it. It’s an executive assassination ring essentially, and it’s been going on and on and on. Just today in the Times there was a story that its leaders, a three star admiral named [William H.] McRaven, ordered a stop to it because there were so many collateral deaths.
“Under President Bush’s authority, they’ve been going into countries, not talking to the ambassador or the CIA station chief, and finding people on a list and executing them and leaving. That’s been going on, in the name of all of us”
Where is Erik Prince these days? Running a ‘Christians only’ mercenary force for a USA ally in the Emirates, with mercenaries hired out of Colombia and the Prince legacy goes on.
So, where does Tea Party darling Rick Perry fit into the cartel wars on our border? Why, it would appear he is ordering his Texas Department of Public Safety not to investigate judges, bankers and politicians (himself) taking Los Zetas money and attending Los Zetas parties.
“”We .. had information on campaign fundraisers and parties in La Union that the cartel held for officials from New Mexico and El Paso. A lot of important people were at those parties, such as bankers, judges, and law enforcement officers.
“Dutton and Gonzales said small aircraft regularly drop drug loads on ranches or other properties along the U.S.-Mexico border, and that some U.S. law officers escort the loads to the next stop.
“The two whistle-blowers said that drug cartels have managed to obtain computer access codes to U.S. surveillance systems that let them see where and when Border Patrol agents are monitoring the border.
“They also alleged that drug cartels have given big donations to politicians, which are unreported, to influence appointments of key law enforcement officers.
“Some of these allegations were contained in a letter that Dutton provided to Gov. Rick Perry, who is seeking the Republican Party’s nomination for president in the 2012 election.
“Our office received the letter and referred it to the appropriate agency, which was the Department of Public Safety,” Josh Havens, a spokesman for the Texas governor’s office, said last Friday.
“Steven McCraw, director of the Texas Department of Public Safety and a former FBI agent from El Paso, said last Friday that he was interested in talking to Dutton. Then, about a half-hour later, McCraw said that Dutton had no credibility.
“We looked into it and there was nothing there,” McCraw said. Dutton said in response, “How can they say there was nothing when they didn’t even look at what I have?” Dutton said he has videos, telephone records, and other documents gathered over the 18 months he worked with the FBI. “The DPS never asked to see any of it,” Dutton said
“Dutton said other informants told him thatthe Zetas drug cartelhas a high-level member in Las Cruces whose wife holds a non-law enforcement job in the “DA’s office,” referring to the Doña Ana County District Attorney’s Office. “The FBI was provided with all this information, and I guess that’s why they’re now saying that we’re crazy,” Dutton said.

What did Chris Farrell, director of investigations at Judicial Watch have to say?
“Law enforcement should investigate”
Huh? Well, I guess flipping the problem back into the laps of the former undercover agents who CANNOT get either the Federal authorities (FBI) or the State authorities (Texas Departments of Public Safety) to investigate, should be no surprise coming from this guy:

He has pursued additional graduate studies in National Security Studies, specializing in unconventional warfare and terrorism. Following command and staff assignments that included three tours of duty in the Federal Republic of Germany, and one tour at Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe, Chris returned to civilian life as a contractor to the defense and intelligence communities. He also provided management and training consulting services to non-profit organizations, and was active in the establishment of a small, private, co-ed Christian high school where he both taught and served as director” (bio since taken offline)
And the two REALLY big time extremist Christian/Rick Perry fans/Tea Party funders? Billionaire industrialists the Koch [pronounced ‘cock’] Brothers? Now, the Matrix brings us via the Tea Party to Iran:
“Koch Industries has spent more than $50 million to lobby in Washington since 2006, according to the Center for Responsive Politic. The brothers have backed a foundation that has trained thousands of Tea Party activists
“Internal company records show that Koch Industries used its foreign subsidiary to sidestep a U.S. trade ban barring American companies from selling materials to Iran. Koch-Glitsch offices in Germany and Italy continued selling to Iran until as recently as 2007, the records show.
And just as quick as you could read the preceding segment, the FBI [via the Matrix] and Iran brings us to the cartel wars on the Texas border, connecting the dots concerning two recent big ‘terror’ busts by the FBI involving a loser who could not competently chew gum and tie his shoes in the same moment (model airplane bomber) or in the case of the recent so-called Iranian assassination plot, could not get it together to wear matched socks:
“His socks would not match,” said Tom Hosseini, a former college roommate and friend. “He was always losing his keys and his cellphone. He was not capable of carrying out this plan”
We have a ten years history of the FBI creating terror plots and pitching them to fools, losers, the disaffected, and the young and impressionable. Why wouldn’t our other intelligence agencies adopt the modus operandi? The former top Middle East analyst for the Defense Intelligence Agency point blank makes the case:
“Why on earth would they create a situation in which they had to rely on this untested, untrained, unguided, and uncontrolled asset rather than their own people?” wrote Col. Pat Lang (ret.), the Defense Intelligence Agency’s former top Middle East and South Asia analyst on his Sic Semper Tyrannis blog.
Calling the government’s case “trash”, Lang added that, “The overwhelming likelihood is that this is someone’s ‘information operation’ intended to condition public attitudes for some purpose.” [see 2, 3, 4 & 5 FBI created terror plot linked articles]
So, while we all have been distracted with domestic and border ‘terror’ created in both fantasy and reality by our own agencies, what is up back in Afghanistan?
How do you suppose Robert Gates and General Patreaus managed to bring all of the heroin out of Afghanistan? You can hear Patreaus telling Gates right here: “You brought a bigger plane than usual”
So what is Robert Mueller, on whose watch this ongoing crimes spree had gone unchecked, up to? Telling Congress to ‘shove it’ when pressed on the ‘Prism’ revelations. And who has Obama nominated to replace Robert Mueller as FBI Director? BCCI’s terror, weapons and narcotics money laundering replacement bank big-shot, HSBC Holdings Board Director and Bush family criminal syndicate associate James Comey. When the new FBI Director has been the criminal enterprise money laundering bank’s director, things start to make a bit of sense, you think?
Where I see a failure connecting the dots, if journalists were paying just a little closer attention, with 30% of security clearances in the private contractor sector (recalling Edward Snowden was at Booz Allen Hamilton and not at the NSA per se), what is become clear is, Prism can serve to inform corporate boards at the deepest levels of anyone opposed to their agendas, draw up their own ‘kill lists’ were it a desired thing to do, track anyone onto illegal activities for purposes of derailing investigations into corporate (or government) organized crime, et cetera, add nausea.
With then Department of Justice attorney Robert Mueller having effectively quashed the BCCI money laundering investigation, covering up Iran-Contra weapons and narcotics trafficking money pipelines, we shouldn’t be surprised at Obama’s pick to replace Mueller at FBI headquarters with HSBC board director James Comey.
While Robert Mueller is making wild claims to Congress about terror, claiming Prism could have stopped 9/11, meanwhile Prism will quite effectively have served organized crime in a deep state of merged corporate/USA government-
I’ve had a number of people over these several years tell me ‘the world will change when people change themselves’
Many people are not equipped to change their personal world, and what I am getting at here is, most people in the ‘larger’ world are not afforded opportunity at social justice but are indentured to a system of practical slavery where institutions are corrupt and serve a wealthy power elite. This is particularly true in poorer nations which are exploited by richer nations
In these poorer circumstance and nations there is little opportunity to explore, learn and develop the self outside mere struggle for survival, and to some extent it is also the case in the poor of the rich nations, as well in some respects is also true of a middle class citizenry locked into perceptions perpetrating imbalances in our larger human universe. Let’s not deceive ourselves with any thought that, for most, there is some voluntary individual path to social equity and attending world change through personal enlightenment
Quoting Aldous Huxley’s character Phillip Quarles in the great novel and social essay ‘Point Counter-Point’ :
“Drill and uniforms impose an architecture on the crowd. An army’s beautiful. But that’s not all; it panders to lower instincts than the aesthetic. The spectacle of human beings reduced to automatism satisfies the lust for power. Looking at mechanized slaves, one fancies oneself a master”
In any society so organized, for people to change the world through individual self introspection, a spell must be broken relating to the privileged vis-à-vis the indentured and manipulated minion
In fact those people who change themselves do appear to change their world, but this is minimal change when change is solely in their personal world. When this change is adopted by the privileged of the richer nations coupled to the practical discarding of engagement and working for world improvement through equilibrium found in social justice, the change has abandoned endeavor towards providing like opportunity for personal enlightenment to all. This is narcissist in the extreme and is in its own right both a victim of, and propping up, Huxley’s ‘automatism’
Aldous Huxley’s character Mr Scogan in Chrome Yellow:
“At this very moment,… the most frightful horrors are taking place in every corner of the world. People are being crushed, slashed, disembowelled, mangled; their dead bodies rot and their eyes decay with the rest. Screams of pain and fear go pulsing through the air at the rate of eleven hundred feet per second. After travelling for three seconds they are perfectly inaudible. These are distressing facts; but do we enjoy life any the less because of them? Most certainly we do not”
Whether blue collar or the professional, the psycho-analyst, the gossip columnist, the mainstream news reporter or the educator, professionals of every stripe in western ‘law abiding’ industrialized nations, all of them, and every other person of affluence from the middle class to the 1% at the top of this food chain, each one of them enjoys their standard of living beyond the “perfectly inaudible .. screams of pain and fear” the diamond, gold, petrol-dollar & other diverse concessions of every imaginable import, exact from the abused Brown peoples of this world to feed the vanities and self-indulgence of the automated and insulated White peoples of this world .. and no amount of personal change is going to change this fact short of surrendering narcissistic vanity and devoting oneself to social justice in hands on or practical terms
And finally, any authentic social justice means the dismantling of those structures which feed like vampires on the resources of the abused Brown peoples of this world in the provision of privilege to those who perpetrate the abuse (that is us)
This is about the book, not the film. The film sells the book out and is essentially worthless melodrama
Jeremy Scahill’s “Dirty Wars” is investigative journalism better described as a counter-intelligence opus; revealing the nature of a fascist state that is growing like a mushroom in the dark. I have only one criticism of the book, that is the apparent acceptance of the official 9/11 narrative overlooking un-refutable evidence we have not been provided anything close to an accurate picture of 11 September 2001. Setting aside this single aspect, ‘Dirty Wars’ is a treasure trove of information the Obama administration never wanted you to know.
The most compelling aspect of Scahill’s work is what too many (to count) intelligence professionals (includes your’s truly) have been saying for years. The war on terror generates the very terror it purports to fight. One of Scahill’s intelligence informants compares the war on terror to “a self-licking ice cream cone” in a circumstance where those who lead the so-called ‘war on terror’ are those who most profit from it, whether corporate mercenaries harvesting the money involved, or criminals reaping fear-mongering political capital to be promoted within the military power structures or the halls of Washington DC.
If the so-called ‘war on terror’ as a self generating phenomena is the most compelling aspect, perhaps the most disturbing aspect is the strong indicators of a ‘war on Islam’ in the integrated story of how Anwar al-Awlaki was driven by the USA’s security services, via years of apparent baseless and extreme harassment, from a moderate Muslim preacher who’d condemned the 9/11 attacks, into a radicalized Imam preaching against the USA. The only evidence we have of why his 16 years old son, a natural born American citizen, was killed in a separate drone strike appears to be because of who his father was. This aspect of ‘Dirty Wars’ raises the specter of literally ‘crusading’ ideologue elements integrated to the American apparatus of state security at the highest levels. Scahill does not name the ‘war on terror’ as a ‘war on Islam’ but the story has all of the elements. In this aspect, information developed separately by the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, when juxtaposed to the information developed in ‘Dirty Wars’ supports the idea of a ‘war on Islam’ as a de facto reality, despite any assurances by Obama he has set out to repair relations with the Islamic world. This BS needs met head on by any and all of those who would see the value in preventing the USA’s aggressions devolving into a war of civilizations.
A followup point developed is, how easily and completely Obama lies to the American people (and the world) about his out of control murder (color of law targeted killings) program engineered by what one must conclude can only be psychopath killers (Obama favorite Admiral William McRaven, example given.) Meanwhile, Syria’s Assad has recovered the initiative and the USA, having started and now faced with supporting a losing endeavor, promises all hell will break loose and American NATO franchise muppets Britain and France strong-arm open the door to pouring weapons into the conflict (in vast amounts on top of vast amounts poured in already) and via Stooge TV the western democracies scream bloody murder at Russia for matching them tit-for-tat, claiming it threatens Israel, who has bombed Syria three times already in the present conflict, and Netanyahu, who pulls the trigger as easily as a child with a toy gun, is willing to bomb some more (the USA & ‘allies’ relationship to Netanyahu appears to be that of Eric Cartman’s mom’s parenting model; Netanyahu throws a tantrum and gets what he wants)
Finally, a Stooge TV personality, a Sunni cleric (must be sort of like a Rick Warren evangelical show) keeps the USA’s promise of all hell breaking loose by calling out to his 60,000,000 (sixty million) potential viewers to pile on Syria (and don’t worry about bringing along weapons, we’ve got plenty in the pipeline) inviting a regional sectarian war (already spilling over into Lebanon and Iraq)
Now, what do you suppose all of this might have to do with virulent Islam hater (and Blackwater founder) Erik Prince setting up a private army in Abu Dhabi? Sort of like ‘Christian Taliban’ General Patraeus setting up sectarian civil war in Iraq by training and arming Shia death squads and then training and arming Sunni ‘Awakening Councils’ that were supposed to counter Al Qaida (but that was ultimately a fairy tale)
The outcome? Let’s try calling it “It’s amazing what Uncle Sam can do in the process of biting himself in the balls” (also known as we are all going to pay for this insanity)
The authors of the study “Gorilla Conservation & Guerilla Warfare”, while reviewing millions upon millions of missing USAID funds, pose a question; what is the Pentagon doing auditing the books of the Dian Fossey Foundation?
“Investigations in Eastern Congo reported by these authors over the past six months indicate that USAID “conservation” funds—millions of taxpayer’s dollars—have been misappropriated, misdirected and disappeared. Evidence suggests that ongoing guerrilla warfare in Central Africa is receiving clandestine financial support in AID-for-ARMS type financial transfers.

As recently as the beginning of 2013, when ‘rebels’ had overthrown the government of the Central African Republic, one of the first things mentioned had been the previous governments mining concessions made to China would be ‘reviewed.’ I’ll make an educated guess Barrick Gold & friends don’t appreciate the competition, in which case there are always USAID taxpayer funds to subsidize any necessary militia keeping the corporate bottom line (stock value) healthy and the shareholder happy. Meanwhile, we have Understanding Land Investment Deals in Africa, revealing (among other things) the United States Department of State egregiously lies in reports to many organizations (not only to the UN) on rights abuses associated with multinational corporate land investments in Africa. “Southern Ethiopia’s Lower Omo Valley is one of the most culturally and biologically diverse areas in the world, yet the Ethiopian government is transforming more than 375,000 hectares (1450 sq. miles) of the region into industrial-scale plantations for sugar and other monocrops. A vast resettlement scheme for the local ethnic groups is accompanying these plans, as 260,000 local people from 17 ethnic groups who live in the Lower Omo and around Lake Turkana—whose waters will be taken for plantation irrigation—are being evicted from their farmland and restricted from using the natural resources they have been relying on for their livelihoods.
“The plantations are being installed and ethnic and pastoral communities are being forcibly resettled with the help of the Ethiopian military, which has become a central player in the implementation of the Ethiopian government’s development plans. Forced evictions, denial of access to subsistence land, beatings, killings, rapes, imprisonment, intimidation, political coercion, and the denial of government assistance are all being used as tools of forced resettlement. Meanwhile, international donors have been accused of supporting the programs connected with the resettlement sites.
“In response to these criticisms, a group from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the UK’s Department for International Development (DFID) conducted a joint field investigation in the Lower Omo in January 2012. Napi. Just who is this guy? Napi is many things. Napi is a teacher, an archetype, our Blackfoot ancestor and much more. Napi is a god, he is like Jesus or a holy man. Napi is the devil, Napi is the first real human being, Napi is a fool, a friend, and the trickster- Old Man Coyote. Essentially Napi is all the possibilities embodied in any Blackfoot MALE
Everyone learns from Napi (his stories) in Blackfoot culture, and the idea behind Napi is to foster what is sane and healthy in men and put strict controls on what is not. Because men are men, there are the men’s Napi stories which are supposed to always be cleaned up in the presence of women (sorry.) Culturally speaking, some of the men’s Napi stories simply should never be told in the women’s presence at all
Did the women have the prurient Napi stories? Men were never admited (NEVER) to the women’s secret societies, so we (men) supposedly must accept at face value the idea the women only knew the cleaned up versions of Napi stories. But because I am Napi (a Blackfoot male) onetime I tricked one of the old ladies into an admission of sorts, that is I made a reference to Napi’s butt
When one of my elder woman teachers was present, I had an opportunity to identify myself in the Blackfoot language.. and instead of using my proper Blackfoot name Pee-ma-na-kwan (man with a rope), I identified myself as Penucquem (Puh-nuck-qwee-um) or that is to say I identified myself as Napi’s rectum with the proper/formal expression
That drew a belly laugh from the old lady, the spontaneous and deep sort of laugh burst out that would make a man think she had heard the dirty stories the men tell (but only behind the women’s backs.)
In actuality I cannot know, it may be she simply believed I am an asshole, that interpretation works just as well. And as she was my elder teacher, I had to stop there, because she subsequently gave a look of spine shivering evil, as though daring me to die for having breeched her dignity and caused her involuntary laugh. It is safe to say I never broached the subject with her again. She was what would be known in the old matriarchal times as a Ni-na-wa-ki, or a woman that was the highest form of Blackfoot chief. You do NOT cross these women
I will come back to Napi, and how he ate his own ass for lunch, but first I think I need to explain Indian humor is more typically healthy, and give folk here in the outside world some idea of how it works
Native humor is all about keeping things honest, in a fun and entertaining way, and consequently, this humor is often self-deprecating in a gentle or harmless way, that is laughing at having made a fool of oneself, or jokes can be created with a little license describing another’s encounter with life’s many surprises. Spontaneous jokes are appreciated, a quick, creative wit is a prized possession in the personality. The taciturn Indian is a face presented to the outside world only, within the community life is filled with fun and liveliness in most conversation.

A Honky Snow Cone
I was at a pow-wow in the southwest where people did not readily know me as an Indian.. looking like ZZ Tops. I was watching the dancers, there was a Rastafarian dreadlocks White guy doing what appeared to be a stoned southern style war dance, overly exaggerated and out of time and I was amazed at the Indians straight faces as this guy made an incredible spectacle of himself. I could not help but laugh, it was that ridiculous
I was thirsty, it was hot, I walked to a concessions stand to see the possibilities with this fresh memory of someone that made me feel pretty stupid about my original race. The Native ladies ceased their conversation, normal when a White comes into earshot, I noticed that and realized they would not know I was Indian. As I approached the stand, I did not have a joke in mind about my Whiteman appearance but being Indian, it had to pop out
The only refreshments on sale were all sugar laced poisons, generic colas and other pop, and I did not want any of that. I ordered what I figured was least sugar poisonous, a snowcone. The (quite pretty, actually) young woman dutifully scooped the crushed ice into the paper cone and then turned to face me and asked “Which color?” (sugar syrup, red, blue, green or yellow)
I asked “Can I have it just as it is?”
She seemed surprised “No color?”
I replied with the perfect musical reservation inflection: “We could just call it a honky snow-cone.”
She looked down at the cone of pure white ice she was holding for me with a dumbfounded expression and the other girls broke out in involuntary laughter but quickly recovered their straight faces and gave this what looked like a Whiteman with perfect Native expression a suspicious look (wondering for a brief moment what had happened, is it safe?) but I had got them
She broke out in a gentle and wry, but friendly smile as she handed me the little cone of ice and took my money.. as I said quietly “I am diabetic” and she replied while now smiling in a truly sweet way and with genuinely friendly voice, also quietly, “Thank you.”
That “Thank you” stated more than the outsider would ever imagine. Indians don’t typically say thank you except in sincere heartfelt circumstance. It was ‘Thank you for being genuine’ and ‘I recognize now you are Indian’, and it was ‘Thank you for the joke and bringing a great laugh into our day.’

Who Framed Melvin Bunny?
Because men are men (yes, in Native America as well) and because the culture is breaking down and becoming western, the humor is becoming ever more dangerous, as it must, to serve keeping the culture honest
So, to another real life Indian story. I hate to do this to my old friend Melvin Running Rabbit (his Indian nickname is Melvin Bunny) but here is how it is in Indian country today. It is a story about accountability
Melvin (if he is still alive) is a really good guy but he had a blind spot. He never looked at the possible consequences of those times he occasionally ran with the wrong crowd when he liked to go out of town to indulge in a really good Indian drinking binge, and those can be pretty stupendous events. I had checked it out for myself on a couple of occasions, any damn thing can happen, it is crazy to drink with Indians or, better said, when Indians drink, crazy things happen, like waking up from passed out with only one braid, the other having been cut off. Melvin was destined to a bigger joke. The Indian joke that backfired, but as the Indian world is not logical, neither are the consequences.
Melvin had, with several other Indians, drunk himself into the oblivion that seems required at these often extraordinary events, in a motel room in Great Falls, Montana, in the 1990s. There was a popular animated video out at the time: “Who Framed Roger Rabbit”
As it happens, there was one late arrival to this drinking binge who did not pass out to the typically near comatose condition and he was feeling a bit hard, or hard up. So he pulled the pants off of a passed out woman, used her like an ultra-conservative Republican on viagra would use a plastic blow-up doll for sex and then he had an idea for a joke. He pulled the passed out Melvin’s pants down and dragged him on top of the passed out woman he had just squirted full of his stuff, and left. That was a bad joke, but it gets better
If he had not done that second part of his criminal act, but rather had pulled the woman’s pants back up instead, he likely would have gotten away with the rape, because every Indian woman that attends these binges knows the risk, it has happened many a time and is often the joke story of the modern Indian drunks. She likely would have been disgusted with herself, having discovering what had happened to her, taken responsibility for being there and let go of it. End of story
But as fate would have it, along comes a family member looking for her and stumbles on the passed out old guy, Melvin, lying on top of the much younger woman, both with pants down. He called the cops and Melvin went to jail and was charged with rape
Melvin professed his innocence at his arraignment, the Indian humor telegraph was working hard on the story, supposedly in his cell Melvin was given a Viagra pill, a playboy magazine and a paper cup, to get his DNA and the subsequent big story on the Indian humor telegraph was:

Napi Eats His Butt
I close this essay with a story of the proverbial trickster, our Napi. There were many stories of Napi holding philosophical conversations with his rectum, and this is where typically the Napi stories become really dangerous. If you can understand this story, then you will have a good idea of how to see where human nature has gone wrong in the Whiteman. Because this is the Indian story of the Evangelical Whiteman, the Whitemen we have met in Andrew Jackson and George Bush. It is about the Whiteman that rules America today. It is about corporate America and nacissism in the extreme. It is about narcissistic men like Barack Obama. It is about a man that does not learn from his mistakes. It is about a man that does not put two and two together concerning the consequences of his actions. It is about a man that does not understand his relationship to essential functions in nature necessary to his survival. It is about a man that does not pay attention or listen. It is about a narcissistic man so full of himself, he lies to himself about others good intentions. It is a story about how not to live your life. And perhaps most of all, it is a story about recycling old and failed ideas. The name of this story is “Napi Eats His Butt.” The story is told by Napi’s asshole, Penucquem, and it goes like this:
Napi had been to a great feast with his brothers. He returned to his camp very full of food and tired. Napi curled up to sleep by his fire, and you know where a dog’s nose is when he curls up to sleep!
Spuurrpp! Napi farted and it woke him up, his eyes were watering. Napi said aloud ‘Well, that was really rude’ and curled back to sleep…
Spuurrpp! Napi’s head popped up again, irritated, Napi shouted at his rectum: ‘Penucquem! If you won’t let me sleep, I am going to teach you a lesson!’ Napi curled up again.
Spuurrpp! That really did it. Jumping up, Napi grabbed up Tail, out of harms way, and sat on his campfire to get even with Penucquem. “Yii! Yii!” Napi really took off, like only a hurt dog does, and this started him on his travels.
Napi moved for a long time, he was thinking of how Penucquem had bit him really hard when he had tried to punish him, he didn’t understand how his asshole could do that to him while pushed down on the fire. It was Penucquem that should have cried out and ran away.
So Napi kept moving and thinking, he was traveling a long time in a big circle…
Napi walked and thought about it for so long that finally the large scab fell off of his rectum and still walking in a circle, he came across the scab and said “What do you know! Dry Meat!” Napi was getting hungry again about this time and he was happy to have found the dried meat some Indian had lost.
The Magpies shouted out to him “Napi! Don’t eat that! It fell off of your rectum!” Napi shouted back to the Magpies “You’re not fooling me, you just want this dry meat for yourselves!”
And then very delicately because there was not much of it, and with a lot of savor because he was hungry, and very deliberately, so the Magpies would envy him while watching, nip by nip, Napi ate his butt.
“Hun Neow Wah Nee Moo Oosss” (This is what your ass has to say)
The best part of the story about Napi eating his butt is, it was just such a good story I couldn’t help myself, I stole it from the Crees. I stole it from Wee-say-kay-cha (the Cree trickster) and gave it to our Napi. It’s a Blackfoot story now-
